TF Stern: In my opinion any threat that has been brought to the point of needing action has also developed over a significant period of time, enough to go before a judge/magistrate and obtain a warrant.

I think you’re right and I have no problem with the issuance of warrants, as long as an impartial judge reviews the evidence and the accused can appeal the charges in open court. However, the previous/current use of NSLs is anathema to the principles that form the basis of the Constitution.

I would have to agree that some giant loss of rights is involved with the Patriot Act, the largest being how to side step getting a warrant.
In my opinion any threat that has been brought to the point of needing action has also developed over a significant period of time, enough to go before a judge/magistrate and obtain a warrant.
The idea of signing away rights of individuals to protect or safeguard rights is insane. Once you give up your rights and liberties you are at the mercy of those to whom you gave them to, in this case your government, the same government which has decided that eminent domain means there is no such thing as private property which cannot be taken away, the same government which ruled that abortion is not murder or that starving Teri Shivo to death was legal. Is this the government that you want to turn over all your liberties too?
