Standing up to these threats is really quite necessary. Sadly, appeasement only makes things worse.

Nothing whatsoever in the concept of liberty says that I have to be "fair and balanced" in what I say. That's the point. I have the liberty, whether as an individual, or a newspaper, or whatever, to say something, whether you like it, or not. How is this any different from the American newspapers that print things offensive to Christians and Jews on a continuous basis, but refuse to print these cartoons?

By the way, when the paper printed the cartoons, the accompanying article explained that they were testing whether free speech was truly free, not whether they could be offensive to a religion, or not.

You know even if it seems a double standard and as bad as it sounds, it should still be that newspaper's right to print whatever they want. People may look down on them more, but I have nothing wrong with this 'new emergence', it's the newspaper's opinion, I don't have to believe it and neither does anyone else.

I still believe it should be cooler heads with the middle east creating the peace and supposedly the imams are talking with the Danish to find a way to resolve this.

However, news like this also came out today:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1703501,00.html

Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that have caused a storm of protest throughout the Islamic world, refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ, it has emerged today.

The Danish daily turned down the cartoons of Christ three years ago, on the grounds that they could be offensive to readers and were not funny.

I'm not sure how relevant it is given it was three years earlier but it appears it is going to get alot of coverage and is going to make this look as if there is a double standard rather than be just about free speech.
