Been in San Francisco lately? The left here hands out cash to the folks on the street, who spend it on booze and drugs and stay poor. As a rule, if you hand any person money, they will spend it unwisely. This holds true in everything from trust fund babies, to lotto winners, to welfare recipients.

In my view, the left constructed the welfare state to keep people from using what they earn to get ahead. The left in this country now has a reliable underclass upon whom they can depend for votes and support. The smart ones figure it out and extract themselves from the system, like you said. The rest are being played. It’s sad, really.

Leftists do care about the poor! Why can’t you see it? They care about making the poor feel as if they’re being helped, and cutting taxes just doesn’t have the same impact as dropping cold, hard cash in their hands.

Besides, can’t you see what would happen if the poor weren’t poor anymore? The left would have no one to pander to. It would be a disaster!

Seriously, it ain’t gonna happen.
