“Capitalism and communism stand at opposite poles. Their essential difference is this: The communist, seeing the rich man and his fine home, says: 'No man should have so much.' The capitalist, seeing the same thing, says: 'All men should have as much.'”     Phelps Adams

Another Reason For A Part-Time Congress

by Doug Mataconis

Andrew Roth at The Club For Growth Blog has undertaken a study and determined that the stock market, as measured by the S&P 500, goes up when Congress in out of session and goes down when Congress is in session.

Roth adds this to his conclusions:

Congressman Jeff Flake (AZ-06), who was elected in 2000 with Club member support, got it right when he said, “For those who really believe in limited government, then there’s virtue in being away from Washington. It’s not all bad that we spend less time here. A lot of what we do and a lot of the disdain people have for Washington is because we do too much, not too little.”

Which just makes me think that all this talk by Democrats of a five day work week for Congress means I need to seriously rethink my investment strategies.
