When it comes to the conduct of foreign policy, we may as well be living in the days of Henry VIII

The only way to stop the Imperial Presidency is for Congress to defund its various military adventures. However, is there a Congressman who is willing to be called anti-military?

Kevin,

Unless we see a day when the Imperial Presidency that came into being after WW2 comes to an end, I doubt we will ever see Congress declare war again unless it suits the political purposes of whoever happens to be President at the time.

In order words, the heck with the Constitution. Forget the fact that it’s Congress, not the President that has the power to declare war. Forget the fact that it’s Congress that controls the purse to fund any military adventures. They would’ve done what ever they wanted to regardless of what everyone else thought.

The one thing that has always bothered me about both Afghanistan and Iraq and the War on Terror in general is the lack of a declared war. Use of force authorizations are not suitable substitutes.
