btw, who do I need to talk to to get back in the LLP discussion? My email somehow got dropped when it changed to a new server or something, and I can't find the email I originally sent off.

I think there are a lot of people swayed that no one notices because they don't comment. The fact that there is another view to the story is a huge factor that was hardly possible before.

I think it interesting how much differently you start looking at a news story when you start to pull excerpts and make comments. It forces people to read more critically rather than just absorbing the information. It is a good exercise.

I've been spending so much time concentrating on local issues and the mess of the two party system here in my County that I had pretty much lost hope that a third party or an independent candidate could manage. Yet, when I read posts like this I realize that it is still possible...So thank you.

There is no debate, only like minded groups converging. As you spoke of vitriolic trashing of others views, it expands to all sides. There is not enough civility to encourage debate. The people who actually go out and vote; who would seriously change government would not be attracted to a place where they could be beaten up in comments. I was told that to engage in discussion on blogs, I would have to have a thick skin. On blogs that I respect the bloggers the commenters have been vicious, so I have developed a smart mouth and a thicker skin. The only people you are going to effect will be the ones who already believe. This has been my experience for the short time, I have been on the net. I wish that the bloggers could brag about something other than Dan Rather.
