Ron Paul Speaks On Attacking Iran

by Doug Mataconis

United States House Of Representatives February 6, 2007:

It’s a bad idea.

There’s no need for it.

There’s great danger in doing it.

America is against it, and Congress should be.

The United Nations is against it.

The Russians, the Chinese, the Indians, and the Pakistanis are against it.

The whole world is against it.

Our allies are against it.

Our enemies are against it.

The Arabs are against it.

The Europeans are against it.

The Muslims are against it.

We don’t need to do this.

The threat is overblown.

The plan is an hysterical reaction to a problem that does not yet exist.

Hysteria is never a good basis for foreign policy.

Don’t we ever learn?

Have we already forgotten Iraq?

The plan defies common sense.

If it’s carried out, the Middle East, and possibly the world, will explode.

Oil will soar to over $100 a barrel, and gasoline will be over $5 a gallon.

Despite what some think, it won’t serve the interests of Israel.

Besides – it’s illegal.

It’s unconstitutional.

And you have no moral authority to do it.

We don’t need it.

We don’t want it.

So, Mr. President, don’t do it.

Don’t bomb Iran!

The moral of the story, Mr. Speaker, is this: if you don’t have a nuke, we’ll threaten to attack you. If you do have a nuke, we’ll leave you alone. In fact, we’ll probably subsidize you. What makes us think Iran does not understand this?

  2. Atta Boy, Ron.

While we’re thinking straight, let’s also remember that the West had no right to slice up Arab land and hand some to the Zionists. Palestine going from about 25,000 Jews to some millions by 1947? That is an invasion. The UN accords the right of self defense to a people against invaders. So, let’s not confuse Palestinians resisting expulsion and occupation with people who crash planes into tall buildings.
The Muslims did not always hate the Jews. When Calip Omar conquered Jerusalem from the Christians, we permitted Jews to move back to the city. When Spain expelled the Jews, the Muslims gave them refuge. Now, the Zionists have poisoned the well with their oppressionand “peace” between an Israel and a truncated Palestine sliced up by Israeli military roads and Palestinians living in misery and passing daily under Israeli guns at roadblocks and checkpoints is a delusion. There is no justice in this and it will not survive. The only alternative to perpetual war is for the Zionists to Exodus from Israel. All the US needs to do is stop sending $3 billion annually to Israel to pay for weapons to kill Palestinians, and issue immigrant visas to Israelis to come and live in security in the US. My wife is Russian and her Russian Jewish friends are trying to get back to Russia. They say an exodus has already begun in the aftermath of the mostrous attacks on Lebanon. The US and the world cannot afford the crimes and cruelty imposed on the Palestinians to satisfy Zionist nostalgia about King David. The Iranian president is right about one thing: If Americans want the Zionists to have a good place to live, we should provide it in America instead of having supported the Zionists to solve their problems at the expense of the suffering of the Palestinians.
