Why The Republicans Lost Congress
by Brad WarbianyThe Republican Study Committee has come up with an American Taxpayer Bill Of Rights:
1. Taxpayers have a right to have a federal government that does not grow beyond their ability to pay for it.
2. Taxpayers have a right to receive back each dollar that they entrust to the government for their retirement.
3. Taxpayers have a right to expect the government to balance the budget without having their taxes raised.
4. Taxpayers have a right to a simple, fair tax code that they can understand.
Sounds good to me. Cut spending. Fight tax increases. Fix Social Security. Reform the tax code. In fact, they really sound like someone who’s giving us promises of what they’ll do if we put them in power:
For those who believe Washington spends too much, we agree. For those who believe Washington still taxes too much, we agree. For those who believe we must balance the budget, cut wasteful Washington spending and provide further, permanent tax relief, we agree. And so we pledge to do it better and get it RIGHT.
But something is still just eating at the back of my head. What’s could it be?
Jason Pye asks “Thoughts? Comments?”
Aha! I’ve got it. These were the same promises they gave us in 1994, and they didn’t follow through on them. They had control of both houses of Congress and the presidency for 6 years, up until 2 months ago. Why are they making these promises of what they’ll do if we put them back in power NOW, when they didn’t say a thing about it when they held the reins?
Why should we trust them?
I hate to say it, but I think the American people are going to give us two years of united Democrat rule under President Clintobama before they’ll dare give the Republicans another chance.

This is tepid Republican bumper sticker talk. Republicans will never get in power again until they start to show some guts and fight for what their base believes in instead of worrying about what is said about them inside the Beltway.
Case in Point: Immigrtaion. If there is anything even remotely resembling amnesty passed in the next two years, Republicans (not Democrats) will be blamed and you can stick a fork in our party for the next 8 years.
Comment by Roger Pell — March 15, 2007 @ 6:46 amImmigration is a priority issue for me. I will vote for those who will control the border and immigration, even I disagree with the rest of their platform. Make your choice, GOP.
Comment by Anon — March 15, 2007 @ 7:49 amIn the Study Committees defense, they were not the issue on those matters, the rest of the party and the Democrats were. These guys did follow through and are trying to get more influence.
