There are many reasons for this, but the main one is that state-run companies are required to fork over their profits to politicians, who have no expertise or interest in the viability of the company. So, if nationalizing an oil company is such a smart move for the nation, why hasn't it helped Mexico? Mexico nationalized their oil production years ago, and it is now in a situation where profitability continues to plummet.
