Can any of you picture what the floor of the Republican convention will look like. It will be the same old delegates that gave us Bob Dole.

Getting those delegates to nominate Ron Paul will be like herding cats. Even if he wins all the primarys.

Then if he does become the nominee its to late to get congresional candidates to back him up.

js290, I think you're right. All along I've had no expectations of him winning the presidency, though I've certainly supported him and even donated. The one thing that his candidacy can bring around is a change of ideas, and I can already see it happening, to be honest. If we're ever going to change things in this country, we're going to need a revolution of ideas and I believe that Ron Paul's candidacy is certainly a great start.

And aside from what Bush's presidency has seemed to indicate, Congress is *supposed* to have much more power than the executive. If Ron Paul were president, he probably wouldn't accomplish as much as we want him to. Certainly not without a Congress that supports and shares his ideas.

Ron Paul supporters focusing only on the presidential campaign is missing the big picture. He even said during the Q&A at his JHU speech that he can't do a whole lot without building a consensus. If the grassroots support is as big as advertised on the internet, then they should really be trying to win some congressional seats. If they can elect 50 libertarian leaning, Constitution abiding candidates in the next election, that'd almost be better than winning the presidency.

Doug,
You could always give your readers what some of them seem to want: tell them that Paul is winning and that victory is all but secured. All they need to do is keep up their hard work and make hotel reservations for his inauguration. Then after he loses badly tell them the election was fixed.

Capturing the Ron Paul demographic is certainly a problem. Ron Paul does mobilize lots of unconventional political bodies and draws support from unconventional crowds.

Still it's not good news to find out that Ron Paul isn't making meaningful inroads with conventional voters.

There are only two problems with that, Doug.
- The possibility exists that the polls are not accurately measuring the demographics that currently support Paul.
- The polls indicate that his support hasn't grown in the past few months, but that doesn't rule out the possibility that they his support can still grow in the coming months. They're sitting on a pile of money and they keep raising more. How they spend it in the coming months can make all the difference.

In other words, Doug, stop wringing your hands at every milepost. This is a marathon for pete's sake.
