Outside of Israel what regime over there isn’t evil? It’s pretty pathetic when our enemy Osama tells us to read Michael Shuerer’s book. Shuerer wants the US to kick ass in Afghanistan and invade Pakistan and brutally wipe out Al Qaeda. Funny he says that Osama is the product of the Saudi education system, strangely we haven’t attacked Saudi Arabia (rolls eyes).

Kevin, is geopolitics a simple matter of good versus evil? Do bad guys wear black hats? Are they bad because they’re not Americans? Just how bad do they have to be to become “evil”?

Gee, that’s exactly what they say about us — except that THEY’RE the ones standing in the way of OUR domination of the Middle East. You seem to have a lot in common with the Iranians. ;-)

I remember this history lesson: In 1938, there was a British Prime Minister named Neville Chamberlain who listened to a certain Austrian ex-corporal who was running Germany at the time. One of his perceived grievances was that the Germans were being mistreated by the Czechs in the Sudetenland, therefore Germany needed to reclaim the Sudetenland. Chamberlain agreed and waved a little piece of paper in London with the ex-corporal’s signature and proclaimed “Peace in Our Time”. Soon, the ex-corporal wanted Czechoslovakia for Lebensraum or something like that. Chamberlain did nothing. Soon, the ex-corporal wanted Poland and I’m sure you know how that ended.

I remember another one: In 1973, the United States and North Vietnam signed a peace treaty in Paris that ended the Vietnam War. Soon, the US Congress, with an anti-war majority; cut off aid to the South Vietnamese government and military. The North in 1975, with Soviet and Chinese aid, launched the Ho Chi Mihn Offensive which ended with US helicopters flying off the roof of the US embassy in Saigon.

The lesson of these two events are:

1) Evil must not appeased, it must be opposed.

2) The United States must not abandon its allies to evil regimes.

The Iranians do not hate the United States because of overthrowing Mossadegh (he himself is despised by the Islamic government), they oppose the United States because it is the one nation standing in its way of domination of the Middle East.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, in the foreword to “The Gulag Archipelago”, speaks of a Russian proverb: Those who remember history lose an eye, those who forget history lose two eyes.

Didn’t Oreilly once cut off some guest who dared to quote Bastiat with a line like, “I don’t care what some 18th century economist said?” (yes, I believe he got the century wrong)

I can’t find the quote on the web, but I remember reading that a few years ago.

Next when someone claims that force equals mass times acceleration, he’ll criticize them for quoting 18th century physicists.
