That is why I hate the state. Justice, IMO, has nothing to do with punishing the criminal (that’s God’s job), but everything to do with making the victim whole (that’s our job). I have no problem making the victim whole (and then some) by auctioning some or all of the criminal’s life/liberty/property with the proceeds going towards the victim, not the state.
