by Stephen Littau

7:06 p.m. Barr admires Ayn Rand.

7:10 p.m. Gravel describes the problems associated with the two party system, incorrectly calls the U.S. a democracy, slams big oil, and champions the Libertarian Party.

7:11 p.m. Phillies says vote Libertarian. Describes himself as “the centrist libertarian.” Slams the Bush Administration.

7:14 p.m. Network Down. Sorry.

7:20 p.m. Jingozian’s philosophical hero is Ben Franklin

7:21 p.m. Mary Ruwart’s philosophical hero is also Ayn Rand.

7:23 p.m. Steve Kubby’s philosophical hero was Nolan.

7:25 p.m. Root’s is Yogi Berra

7:30 p.m. Phillies says we should bring the troops home.

7:31 p.m. Jingozian says war in Iraq will not end if Barack Obama is elected…vote Libertarian.

7:33 p.m. Root says war in Iraq was a mistake. He supported the war in the beginning but now says it was a mistake. All future wars must be authorized by congress.

7:35 p.m. Barr says that we should have a defensive military policy rather than offensive.

7:36 p.m. Jingozian says government should get out of the way and allow private industry to solve the energy problem.

7:37 p.m. Jingozian is against drilling in ANWR because we are too dependant on oil.

7:39 p.m. Ruwart says we need to go to alternative energy sources.

7:40 p.m. Kubby says he leads by example on energy.

7:41 p.m. Root Ethanol is not the answer. Let the free market lead the way. Government get out of the way.

7:42 p.m. Barr says get the government out of the way for energy policy

7:43 p.m. Gravel says its not so simple to have the government get out of the way. The government needs to be involved to solve the energy policy.

7:45 p.m. Jingozian says he doesn’t necessarily know all the answers. We must ask the right questions.

7:46 p.m. Ruwart says environmental policy should be based on property rights.

7:47 p.m. Jingozian says that the government is not the answer to environmental concern. I seem to see a pattern emerging here.

7:48 p.m. Root slams Al Gore for his environmental hypocrisy. Government pollutes more than we do.

7:49 p.m. Barr slams McCain for supporting the Kyoto Protocol.

7:50 p.m. Gravel champions private property rights concerning the environment? Wow.

7:51 p.m. Phillies wants to be the president of all people. Hates how politics has distorted science.

7:53 p.m. Ruwart would abolish the PATRIOT Act and stop Real ID

7:54 p.m. Kubby is confused about where Barr stands on the PATRIOT Act.

7:55 p.m. Root says PATRIOT Act is what turned him into a Libertarian. No to Real ID. Privatize the war on terror.

7:56 p.m. Barr says U.S. policies are based on fear. Kill the PATRIOT Act real good.

7:57 p.m. Gravel says this is a “no brainier.” Champions his crazy National Initiative.

7:59 p.m. Phillies will bring government civil liberties violators to justice.

8:00 p.m. Jingozian says we cannot trust Democrats and Republicans to change these policies.

8:00 p.m. Kubby says that the current immigration policy is racist.

8:02 p.m. Root says open immigration can only occur once the welfare problems are solved.

8:04 p.m. Barr: What immigration policy? Make sure immigrants are not security threats then let them in.

8:05 p.m. Gravel: open the borders and pass the Fair Tax.

8:06 p.m. Phillies says borders will not matter in the ‘libertarian future.’

8:07 p.m. Jingozian: we cannot have open borders in a welfare state.

8:08 p.m. Ruwart: regulators kill jobs.

8:09 p.m. Root: war on drugs is a failure. End the international and domestic war on drugs. First step – legalize marijuana.

8:11 p.m. Barr: the war on drugs is a failure. He realizes it now that he is not in government.

8:12 p.m. Gravel: drugs abuse is a public health problem not a criminal justice problem.

8:13 p.m. Phillies: we haven’t learned our lesson from prohibition. We cannot afford to run each others lives.

8:14 p.m. Jingozian: war on drugs is unwinnable. To solve the drug problem we must legalize all drugs. He would pardon all non-violent drug offenders. Gets a HUGE applause.

8:16 p.m. Kubby: has a huge buzz. Medical marijuana should be legalized. Would end drug war with an executive order.

8:18 p.m. Barr: has someone in mind for the Supreme Court.

8:19 p.m. Gravel: term limits for all judges.

8:20 p.m. Phillies: would appoint libertarian law professors.

8:21 p.m. Jingozian: judiciary has been corrupted like all other areas of government. Agrees with Gravel about term limits for judges.

8:22 p.m. Ruwart: would appoint principled judges.

8:23 p.m. Kubby: the courts have overstepped their authority since Maubury vs. Madison.

8:24 p.m. Root: would appoint judges who follow the Constitution. Education is the new civil rights issue of our time.

8:25 p.m. Gravel: healthcare and education are rights. Empower the people.

8:27 p.m. Phillies: your healthcare should be for you not someone else.

8:28 p.m. Jingozian: deregulate the medical industry.

8:29 p.m. Ruwart: universal healthcare is not the solution. Uses Canada and Europe as examples.

8:30 p.m. Kubby: has personal experience in dealing with the FDA as a cancer patient.

8:31 p.m. Root: “Do you want the government who handled Katrina to run healthcare?” Good point.

8:32 p.m. Barr: we need more transparency in medical billing.

8:33 p.m. Phillies: gays should have all the same rights as everyone else.

8:34 p.m. Jingozian: why is the government even in the issue of marriage?

8:35 p.m. Ruwart: marriage is a private matter and none of the government’s business.

8:36 p.m. Root: its none of the government’s business AT ANY LEVEL.

8:37 p.m. Barr: regrets sponsoring the Defense of Marriage Act. Will work to repeal it. WOW!

8:38 p.m. Gravel: marriage is a commitment between two people.

8:39 p.m. Jingozian: will sell the libertarian message to non-libertarians.

8:40 p.m. Ruwart: plays the woman card. Evokes Ron Paul’s name every chance she can.

8:44 p.m. Gravel: details his Senate career. Says freedom 3 times.

8:46 p.m. Phillies: calls conservative radio “hate radio”. Was that really necessary?

8:47 p.m. Ruwart: will repeal all gun laws.

8:48 p.m. Barr: “The 2nd Amendment is really the 1st Amendment.” Opposes the D.C. gun laws.

8:49 p.m. Gravel: 2nd Amendment can be subject to popular vote.

8:50 p.m. Phillies and Jingozian agree that the 2nd Amendment is a fundamental right.

8:51 p.m. Barr: fear should not be part of public policy.

8:52 p.m. Gravel: falsely believes democracy equals liberty.

8:53 p.m. Jingozian: would run the Whitehouse like a business.

8:54 p.m. Ruwart: libertarian positions are becoming more mainstream.

8:55 p.m. Kubby: talks about how he reformed marijuana laws in California.

8:56 p.m. Root: he has the most energy to run a libertarian campaign. Stops short of pulling a Howard Dean primal scream.

8:58 p.m. Debate over.
