Given that the most people mean “we vote to make decisions” when they say “we live in a democracy”, I feel perfectly fine in my cringing whether you approve or not. Would you not agree that we’ve done a terrible job of holding the line on things to sacred to vote on?

“Republic” does not mean “free”. The USSR was a republic. So was Khmer Rouge Cambodia. So is Zimbabwe.

Don’t be silly. Athens had democracy without elections. In fact, they were convinced elections were a tool of oligarchs.

Well, this is why that little vein in my forehead starts twitching every time I hear someone say we live in a democracy. We’ve totally failed to teach that there are some things to sacred to vote on, and I fear we’re going to pay for it sooner rather than later.

If the First Amendment were put to vote, it would get a majority… Americans pride themselves on having freedoms they don’t understand.
