I like Ayn Rand’s antagonists. They weren’t evil simpletons, until the end.

They were meddling do-gooders, who spoke in the language of brotherhood, solidarity, social justice and equality.

Only in the very end, was their ideology was revealed as one of coercion and irrationality.

When the author is convinced that he is right, the protagonists tend to preach at each other, and the antagonists tend to sound like evil simpletons.
