As far as downsides, I was a little concerned when I entered the job market recently. I did a google search on my name and my personal attack ad was the first item listed!

There are times that I have wondered if I should use a pen name rather than my real name when I blog. On the other hand, I am not ashamed of my views so if someone has a problem with something I’ve posted, that’s their problem.

In any event, what’s done is done. I realize that anything I publish will potentially be in cyberspace forever. Though I have changed my views on certain issues over the last 4 years of blogging, there isn’t anything I’ve written that I regret.

I’m not sure there is a thing in between Libertarian and Objectivist, not because they are diametrically opposed. Exactly the opposite–the principles of Objectivism lead to the Libertarian political philosophy. One cannot be Libertarian without accepting Objectivism (at least implicitly) and one cannot be a true Objectivist without being a Libertarian (in the literal sense of the word: a person who supports personal liberties). I assume you have an Ayn Rand collection. Given that, you probably have “Objectivism: the Philosophy of Ayn Rand” also. The chapter entitled “Government” makes this point particularly well.

Just run a response ad that accuses him of plagiarism. That should stir up enough discussion for you to explain yourself and it would end up making him sound pretty stupid.
