Wait a second - Dondero writes:

"Republicans lost cause the country has taken a hard turn to the Left. Americans want bigger government and are shunning limited government views in record numbers.

It’s a failure of the libertarian movement to convince voters that limited government principles are best for their lives, especially blacks and Hispanics. Not so much a failure of the GOP."

Huh? This from the man who for the last year plus has been arguing that the problem with the libertarian movement is that it is too far Left?

Republicans. Do you want to know why you lost the last two elections? I can sum it up in just 5 words. George (Worst president ever) Bush. His "deficits don't matter" when they sure as hell do, his extremely costly invasion of Iraq and lies leading up to it. His shreading of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Your party is paying for his screw-ups. My advice to you is take everything that he has done and undo it!

"Americans want bigger government and are shunning limited government views in record numbers."

What, like Bush and his Republican buddies running the deficit through the roof, creating whole new departments of government, and starting a war under completely false pretenses? A continuing wasteful, authoritarian drug war burning billions of dollars a year?

Republicans are in *no* position to argue that the Democrats are "big government" and the Republicans are "limited government," which is, I believe, the point being made here.

It may well be that the Democrats are big government, but the Republicans have completely trashed any and all moral authority they may once have had in criticizing the expansion of government power and spending.

The Republican Party is a mess. It stands for nothing except a few nebulous, ill-defined Christian crusade causes. When it once again finds its footing in fiscal conservatism and stops interfering in people's love lives and the like, maybe it will once again rise to prominence.

If opposing goofy, incompetent, immoral wars, the police state mentality that followed 9/11, and so forth represents "a hard turn Left," count me in.

Republicans: Maybe you should stop regarding libertarians as a fringe curiosity, and start regarding them as your *conscience.*

Dondero,

How is it a failure of the libertarians (rather than the GOP) to convince voters that limited government principles are better for them? Nobody listens to libertarians.

You really don't blame the GOP that has abandoned any semblance of limited government principles?

The party that selected Boehner over Shadegg, and whose nomination fight was largely between law'n'order Giuliani, fundamentalist Huckabee, and national greatness conservative McCain, has given limited government short shrift ever since they got into power (as most parties do).

Blame it on the libertarians all you want, but when there's a near-blackout of media coverage for Bob Barr and other libertarians, I don't think we're at fault.

It was Tina Fey who volunteered "I can see Russia from my house", not Palin. In the actual interview, Palin points out the proximity of Russia to the US via Alaska (not to her house) to graphically illustrate the importance to the United States of maintaining a good relationship with Russia (i.e., it's a small world). Gibson is the one who obliviously suggests that the proximity gives Palin special insight, and Palin rejects the suggestion, restating that her point is that it's a small world. It's a perfectly reasonable point, but it was twisted into idiocy by Tina Fey.
