“As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers faced with perils that we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience’s sake.”

Definitely a stirring sentiment, if a bit non-specific.

If he means he'll respect civil liberties and in the face of external threats, I'm happy to support him in that. If he means he'll respect the limits in the constitution (that rule of law), including adherence to limited and enumerated powers – even in the face of public demands to the contrary – then I'm even happier to support him.

I guess I'll have to wait and see what actions follow the words.

But I am happy we're out of the Bush leagues.

Rush L. hoping for a failed president... great, is that what we can expect from his loyal followers too? Hope that he fails?

I suppose Rush has dual citizenship so that he can avoid the failures that he's hoping for.

One does not hope for a failure; the worst one should hope is for embarrassment. Failure would be bad for everyone.
