Yes - Republicans did cave on TARP 1.1 - that is the one I was unhappy with myself for exactly the reasons you state Akston. At least in my hme state of Michigan as bizarre as it is politically and economically these days I think most people were vehemently against the TARP both time as were several Republican Reps and one Democratic Senator.

I might not be thinking of the same bill, but wasn't TARP 1.1 supported by their candidate?

I also think many American people had caved by TARP 1.1 after seeing a stock market drop, and succumbed to media panic inducement and calls for more kerosene to put out the fire. Citizens, in turn, pushed legislators in the other direction to pass TARP 1.1.

Of course, $150 billion of extra pork grease also helped it slide right in.

But I wholeheartedly agree about opposition by common sense.

So the House Republicans voted right on 2 of the last 3 big issues - NO! on TARP 1.0 and NO! on STIMULUS 1.0.

If only they hadn't inexplicably voted for TARP 1.1 supported by an unpopular lame duck President - opposed by their presidential candidate, the American people and common sense.

Lets see how they proceed from here.
