So, this is a Soviet-style, guilty unless a miracle proves the accused innocent kind of event?

Chris, ignoring rules of evidence, canons of journalism, and general customs of polite discussion said:
Well Ed first of all, prove to me that it’s a hoax; as it’s being reported widely.

It's not been reported by any usual medium -- no newspaper, no magazine, no television station. Do you know why? Because it can't be corroborated.

I dare you to provide a name of a school, or a name of a person involved. Clark County School District and others have been seeking some anchor of reality in the story for five days now. Nothing.

It's pure hoax, so far. Prove to you it's not real? I can't do that -- the extraterrestrial aliens took away the kid, and the school. They are no longer on this planet, so I can't interview them. Either that, or they are all wearing their magic tinfoil hats, the new ones with the Cloak of Invisibility feature.

Sure, I'd like you to point out one, verifiable example that demonstrates some point -- who knew you had a point?

There are none blinder, nor more dangerous, than those who pluck out their own eyes, and then claim to see better than anyone else.

Got a fact? Can it be corroborated? Bring it on.

I'm pretty sure it's a hoax because it's not being picked up by anyone that google uses as a news-feed - anyone that is, other than us.

There are too many reputable journalists who would want to publicize this for this to remain a non-story for so long.

Well Ed first of all, prove to me that it's a hoax; as it's being reported widely.

Second, even if it is, would you like me to point out the literally hundreds of other instances around the country that will illustrate my point?

The tens of thousands of youtube videos, with their gushing near worship of the man; and their breathless pronuncation that he will "heal" them (or that he has, merely by being elected).

The tens of thousands, pledging to "server him" personally?

There are none so blind as those who will not see Ed.

The Las Vegas story has too many elements of hoax in it -- why do you spread such falsehoods?

I hope Reagan was right, but you're making a good case that the cynic's statement is accurate instead, there is no limit to stupidity.

The very people who hate and fear potential abuse by corporate agents with what they see as too much power, too often see no problem with governmental agents having at least that much power, plus the power to draft law. People do not transcend personhood by becoming President any more than by becoming chairmen of the board or a film star.

I can only recently appreciate the joy of finding a politician I would actively support. To have that politician then win the presidency must be quite a heady experience for his supporters. But that support should fall well short of inculcating first grade children with a pledge of allegiance to your favored politician. I'd call it an abuse of trust on the part of the teacher.

Also, a couple points about commander in chief and the Constitution.

The President is the commander in chief of the military only ("The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States"). He or she is not the "commander in chief" of the citizenry.

The exact oath President Obama eventually swore was:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

He did this because Article II, Section 1, Paragraphs 8 and 9 require him to do so.

As Chris already wrote, there is nothing in there about the government or the people. He's supposed to "preserve, protect, and defend" the design of the country. That design is explicitly written out in the Constitution.

i think the problem is that the media is focusing too much on the particularly overt displays of "affection" towards President Obama, and ignoring the fact that most of the people who voted for him (that I know at least) are nowhere near as "facist."

unfortunately, the media isn't concerned with what the majority of Americans think, but rather what gets them the most ratings/page hits/comments.

Sickening, just sickening.

Remember how the Nazi's would put up big images of Hitler and their flag, and have all the children salute them?

Remember how the Stalinist Russians would have big images of Stalin, along with their flag, and have their children salute them?

I am not saying that Obama is like Hitler or Stalin (that will be for another post) but this is just absurd.

The President of the United states, in my opinion, has been given too much power. Unfortunately, it appears that many people in the US are all too willing to give much more power up now, because there is "a crisis" and we need somebody to "fix it".
