Depends what you mean by going galt. Of course having people go on strike will not stop government stupidity. Only a moron would think that.

On the other hand, giving up on this society and creating a new one, based on an understanding of why current governments tend to get bloated, and some mechanisms for addressing it...seems quite reasonable to me.

Of course, that's what I work on for a living, so perhaps I'm biased :).

Colbert is a comedian, and a good one, too. And this was a very entertaining and effective sketch. It was a sketch, not a speech, and it was supposed to make us laugh, which I did, so it was effective.

As for his message, well, he's wrong. The auto industry is is not run by the John Galts of this world, but by the Orren Boyles and James Taggarts of the world.

The mortgage companies were run by the Wesley Mouches and Eugene Lawsons -- as is AIG.

If you read the book, you know that there were a lot of gov't bailout plans -- they bailed out the losers at the expense of the winners, and destroyed the winners . . . . and the weak companies never did recover, they just took longer to die.

I am no Objectivist, but again, the liberals think you can only help people through compulsion. And, again, the free market is being blamed for the effects of massive government intervention.

Indeed. I don't think Colbert came within striking distance of the nail, nevermind hit it on the head.
