“Nobody spends somebody else's money as carefully as he spends his own. Nobody uses somebody else's resources as carefully as he uses his own. So if you want efficiency and effectiveness, if you want knowledge to be properly utilized, you have to do it through the means of private property.”     Milton Friedman

Quote Of The Day: The Arrogance Of Power Edition

by Doug Mataconis

From the mouth of the President of the United States:

As first reported by Politico’s Eamon Javers, and confirmed by ABC News with industry sources, some bankers gave explanations for the industry’s high salaries, such as “competing for talent on an international market.”

But, President Obama cut them off.

“My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks,” the president told them.

I’d say that I’m shocked, but. after the events of the past seven months, there’s very little that shocks me anymore

  1. Of course, it would be in bad taste to mention that it is the administration who created the mob, now wouldn’t it?

  2. Obama neglected to explain that the only reason his administration is between the bankers and the pitchforks is that, only having flown over flyover country, they never actually learned the proper technique for using such a device.

  3. And now that we’re on the road he’s chosen – presumably with the best of intentions – I expect we’ll all get an extended refresher on the use of those pitchforks.
