dothemath,

How do I respond politely? First off, my remark was about how global warming advocates see a glacier expand and they whine; a news headline that disagrees with their ideology brings out their inner toddler. Second, the idea of criticizing me for one glacier not being statistical significant is a joke. This is global warming; statistics plays no part in the discussion. How does using the last 100 years as our "sample" fit any statistical model?

While it would be nice if climate scientists were actually held to the same statistical standards as other academics, unfortunately, this is politics, not science. Asking Algorists to explain how the northern United States came out from under ice without cars and factories is an exercise in futility. The best I can do is enjoy them scramble to cover their misguided beliefs, even though you gave the most logical argument.

There are approximately 100,000 glaciers worldwide. Google it. An article about one that's growing is statistically significant only to those who have no comprehension of statistics.

Yahoo! had a great headline up yesterday about a glacier actually increasing in size even with global warming. Just reading the headline, you could literally hear the self-righteous whining.

Thanks for the great quote. Definately passing that one on.
