This account above sounds to me like the usual making a mountain out of a molehill but the threat of marshall law is not an idle one...As of tomorrow it looks like the Democratic majority in the senate will lose its lock on the agenda if the filling of Kennedy's seat goes to the Republican candidate. The health care bill is falling apart apparently at this moment unless something is rushed thru and Obama signs it faster than the speed of light. This is Not the way our government is designed to work and the "masses" are waking up to the shell game and smoke and mirrors that is more evident every day. Never underestimate the American determination to fight "city hall" and if it takes to a full-fledged revolution (and it might) be prepared for one hell of a fight! Preparations for just that have been in the works for many years by groups of highly organized and extremely well trained "ordinary" people who are very well equipped with every weapon you can imagine and are hair-trigger ready. I have no personal information of any kind, but quietly watching developments closely from the sidelines for years leads me to conclude that something, perhaps totally unexpected, will trigger events to go out of control in many different ways. Not because of any type of warnings found in biblical or Mayan prophesy but because these predictions are being used as a kind of script to create the chaos someone in control (the powers that be, perhaps) need to happen for their purposes. In other words, the Bible or the Mayan calendar says it's going to happen and we now have the technology to make these things (earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions) which we do now have, as I understand it, so now is the time to play out that end-of-time game. It is also a scientifically viable time as we pass through the center of the galatic plane, always a rough ride, and the sun is behaving in very unusual ways and seems to be heating up the whole solar system. This is my clumsy description of what is going on as I understand it without having the benefit of the mathmatical or physics training that really is needed to explain any of this correctly. All of this is the opinion of one very reclusive 70ish woman who studies and reads a lot. To be taken with a grain of salt or not.

All of the evils that could (and probably will) arise from this council completely aside, isn't this, in a way, a step back to the days before the 17th Amendment (which essentially removed the ability of the state governments to have any kind of say in national matters)? For all the whining and crying about the federal government romping all over the states, shouldn't libertarians at least be a little more accepting of Obama's attempt to give to the states a little of the power that they once had via the Senate? Or, is this move just as Lycurgus says it is?

Feel free to correct me, but didn't Prime Minister Putin of Russia do this same thing when he was president a few years ago? Once you build a centralized framework, you can insert the Royal Governors wherever there once were autonomously elected ones. A step in that direction whatever the case.
