As someone who has actually referred to himself as a nihilist, I can agree with your assessment. Nihilist is an extreme form of skepticism; a rejection of everything. Nihilism can't be one-sided - just a rejection of some things. So it doesn't apply to the Republicans one-sided rejections.

As far as I go, its not that I actually believe in nothing, or that I believe that nothing matters. I think that in order to be intellectually honest we need to constantly question, reanalyze and sometimes reject even our most strongly held beliefs. Unfortunately this sometimes puts me in a position of relative nihilism, since I feel like all of the available options are ultimately the same failure. However that position is a beginning, not an end.

Also, I do have to question your belief that the government can and should effectively handle defense. I find it ironic when someone hates and fears government yet thinks that same government should be given nuclear weapons and the largest standing army in the world. This isn't however a simple issue. Ignore defense entirely and you are taken over - over-militarize (as we have now) and you get Caesar crossing the Rubicon.

Also, I would disagree with your strategy of playing defense by electing Republicans. Until we get some more legitimate parties in place (or the existing parties start acting responsibly), the best strategy is a balanced government (i.e. one party in the White House and another in Congress). Keep the parties at odds with each other - keep them gridlocked so that they can't do any more damage.

When you believe in the power of the people energized by small government, freedom of expression and choice, low taxes and liberty it is inherent that you will oppose almost everything that is put forward by the socialist regime.

We can support legislation that returns dignity and respect to the people.

Just the opposite of nihilists, we want the freedom to act so we can move forward. And we are more than willing to tolerate the actions and beliefs of others, just not their tyrannical political thuggery.

Ironically, I agree with almost everything that you say. I too am a veteran, raised Catholic, but no longer practice, and am married. The only point that I must disagree with you on is that the government doesn't run healthcare or education well. The government is responsible for the healthcare of all current and retired service members. The care may not be ideal for some people, however, I guarantee for those 45 million Americans without coverage they would take it in a heartbeat. As for education the government is also responsible for the DODDS school corporation that many service members children attend. This program is one of the top rated education systems in the country. I do agree with your points about who the political parties want to give our money too. I had never thought of it in that way before, but you are spot on. I truly appreciate hearing someone else who is completely fed up with both sides. I hope that more people take an interest in telling the government their opinions so that one day we may have real CHANGE in America instead of the empty promises that we hear every two to four years.

Thanks Chris! This an excellent analysis and is really spot on with our current political environment. It is good to see that there are other people out there that hold ideals of liberty and freedom above mindless party lines and that some people are working to prevent government coercion wether it comes from the Republicans or Democrats!
