How does this explain how some lunch counters became desegregated and others didn&#039;t in the same state? State law was not the only thing that compelled segregation. It was local custom. That was always one of the reasons brought up when Civil Rights groups tried to negotiate desegregation.]]></description>

That is why like Matt i want racist MFrs to feel safe practicing their ignorance in the light of day for all to see so that we the people can refuse to give them any business and recognize those that do.

I find it interesting and wonder if Rachel Madow knows that Jim crow laws made it mandatory for Woolworth to deny service to blacks?
