I was interested to hear the words of Imam of the Muslim community in New York seeking to build the Islamic center near "Ground Zero" in Manhattan in his speech on people and their responsiveness to emotion over logic.

My Lady and I were discussing just this issue yesterday. Time and again we see people, groups and individuals who are far more responsive, and motivated by emotional appeals rather than rational, logical appeals to their opinion.

Many of the so-called 'hot-button' issues in U.S. foreign and domestic policy and individual liberty are reported in the media with what seems to be the intent to stir up people's emotional, 'knee-jerk' reactions over than their capacity to logical reason.

If we are reduced to decision making based on spur of the moment, emotional reaction, we are unable to effectively create anything but fear, bigotry and suffering.
