I wouldn’t mind the turkey gag so much if the pardon was more often used the way it was intended.

On its face, pardoning turkeys appears as a borderline scornful to the criminal justice system and the popular concept of executive power, as well as an open allusion to scorn of a President’s responsibility.

The history of this tradition is probably interesting.
