Sorry to hear about your grandmothers passing. My grandmother died last week on Friday under almost similar circumstances. I started reading the persuit of happiness and your message reminded me of the book’s idea, “anyone can be happy”.

To some extent I agree with you. I do believe that we tend to overmedicate for depression and other psychological disorders in this country (finding solace in a pill instead of in oneself), but I agree that there are certainly true cases of chemical imbalances that require medication to fix.

Very good piece, Brad, but I have one caveat.

In the case of true clinical depression you’re dealing with not just emotions but chemical imbalances in the brain that make the act of “being happy” far more difficult than it might seem.

To get happiness residing inside of your, be happy, act happy. Fake it until you make it. You’ll be surprised how well that works. Best of luck!
